IDEA Part B Survey

2016-2017 Parent Survey Letter to Parents AEA15

As shared in the School Leader Update from the Iowa Department of Education:

Part B of the Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA) requires states to report the percent of parents with a child receiving special education services who report that schools facilitated parent involvement as a means of improving services and results for children with disabilities. This year, the Iowa Department of Education is gathering these data as a census for both students with and without a disability using a three-question survey.

Attached is a Parent Letter with a survey link that you are asked to share with all parents via email, website, and/or social media.

If you have any questions, please contact Meredith MacQuigg, Data Consultant, Iowa Department of Education, 515.494.5610 or meredith.macquigg@iowa.gov.

Iowa Assessments 3/6-3/17

The Iowa Assessments will start Monday March 6th for all students in Grades 2-5.  Most assessments will be taken Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday(3/7-3/9) of next week.

The Iowa Assessments achievement test is the public accountability assessment in the State of Iowa. Our school’s focus is on the core areas of reading, science, and mathematics.  The test is simply  one of many ways to assess the progress of your child.  The results will be used in conjunction with the child’s school report of his/her academic progress, to assess individual academic needs as well as investigate the strengths and weaknesses in our instructional program.

How can you help your child prepare for the upcoming testing?

  • Arrive at school promptly so your child can commence the assessment in a relaxed manner
  • Ensure that your child gets a good night’s sleep.
  • Ensure that your child eats a good breakfast in the morning.
  • Simply encourage your child to do his/her best.
  • Make sure your child understands that these tests are just to see how he/she is doing at school.
  • Do not place any undue pressure on your child about these tests; just ask your child to do their best.
